I grew up in the Midwest. We were a meat and potatoes kind of family. Trust me, I get it.But it's time to branch out a little bit and add an important protein to your weekly menu: fish.Fish is a high-quality source of protein that is low in fat. And the good news is the fat in fish is actually good for you! Some benefits of fish include:
- Filled with omega-3 fatty acids
- Filled with important vitamins like D and B2
- Rich in calcium and phosphorus
- High in minerals including iron, zinc, magnesium, and potassium
So what are omega-3 fatty acids and why should I care about them?Omega-3 fatty acids are essential nutritions for your heart and brain health. Our body also does not produce them itself, so we rely on getting them through or diet.Omega-3 fatty acids help to:
- Lower blood pressure
- Reduce risk of heart disease
- Aid healthy brain function
The American Heart Association recommends eating fish at least twice a week. We agree, adding fish into your diet, especially to replace a higher fat protein, can be a great step in improving your nutrition!
